THURSDAY 27th August
29 members present and excellent prize money of £1520.
Not a lot to report again this week. Once again they were running out of time. So with 7 minutes to go a chop was agreed with 5 players left. Gavin McPadden, Robert Ward, Paul McMahon, Ross Ewan and Tony Foley all picking up £300. Gavin took top points which sees him taking over from Tony with just five weeks of the season to run.
It was great to see Ross Ewan back in action. He’s a really nice guy who always takes his bad beats with a smile. And it’s amazing how often members who have not been in attendance for a while get into the prizes. Definitely not grudged Ross!
So we have 5 weeks to go and everything is becoming a little clearer at both ends of the table.
In the battle for the League title Tony Foley is a long odds on shot to prove victorious. Despite being top at the moment Gavin will be missing for two out of the next five weeks so that will give Tony a clear advantage. Stevie is 22 points behind Tony but if you add 5 x 8 attendance point on that means that he has to score at least 62 points over five weeks. An extremely difficult but not impossible task for our 4 time champ!
But 3rd place looks like being particularly close with 4 members within 20 points of Stevie.
Meanwhile in the race for a place at Big Game Sunday we reckon that the cut off for the play offs will be about 190 points. So as long as those in contention meet the attendance requirement of 14 they should be fairly safe. But a high final table finish for either Callum or Dennis and that will change as there is a gap of 23 point between 23rd and 24th place.
Interesting times indeed!
